Mungiki

The recent killing in cold blood of 24 Kenyans by the outlawed mungiki sect is sad, unexplainable, unjustified and outright wrong. The mungiki are justifying this massacre with the killing of their own some days ago. Where is the police? Is this a nation that has gone to the dogs? Are we facing anarchy? I beg to differ. Ours is a govt.that has failed it's people.

A government's mandate among many other things is to protect her citizens. This Govt.and many before it has failed and continues to do so. Is a country as good as it's leaders? I do not believe that Kenya is in anarchy despite us taking the Law into our own hands more than once. I do however view it as a precursor to an uncontrolled society-God forbid. I hear all the time that mungiki is an outlawed sect, why then do they continue to terrorize the rest of us?

I have argued over time that mungiki is predictable. You attack one of their own they sure as hell will retaliate (as if it is a right) Shouldn't the govt.have watched out for the signs? You bet. You would think security would have been beefed up in this area and it's environs? Granted, there was no way to know where they would have staged their attack-they were going to anyway.

Ponder this for a moment. Why did the residents of Gathaithi, Nyeri choose to take matters into their own hands? Is it their frustration with this govt.? Is it justified? Are we supposed to regroup and form vigilantes against each other? Are we not still healing the wounds of the violence that rocked Kenya 07-2008.

My condolences go out to the bereaved families.

Stay safe.
